    Staff Accountant

    Birmingham-Southern College has an opening for Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for specific accounting and reporting processes, such as assisting with preparing financial reports, statements, reconciliations, special projects, and assisting outside auditors. Primary areas of responsibility include: investment reconciliations, bonds and notes payable, mortgage receivable, payroll tax reporting, and other external reporting. The position interacts frequently with faculty, staff, students, and personnel from external agencies. This position contains involvement with deadlines.

    Requirements: Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting or Finance and three – five years of accounting experience. Must have working knowledge of computer systems and software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and strong interpersonal skills.

    Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Maintain the endowment unitized accounting report that allocates earnings and investment drawdowns to individual endowment accounts.
    • Obtain the monthly revenue from the general ledger system to prepare and remit sales tax payments to the state, city, and county governments.
    • Prepare audit schedules as assigned for the annual external audit.
    • Prepare monthly ledger journal entries that include the transfer of fundraising proceeds from Bookstore to various organizations’ accounts.
    • Complete ad hoc and regulatory reports to external agencies as due and requested.

    Assistant Athletic Trainer

    Birmingham-Southern College has an immediate opening for an Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a full-time, 10-month appointment within the 澳门新葡京官网 Athletics Department caring for all 22 athletic programs.

    The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting the supervision and coordination of 澳门新葡京官网’s overall sports medicine program and other responsibilities as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. This includes but is not limited to:

    • Injury prevention
    • Evaluation, management and treatment of athletic injuries
    • Short- and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries
    • Education and counseling of student-athletes.

    The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also assist in athletic related health care administration in consultation with and under the supervision of the Team Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel.

    The qualified candidate will hold a degree in athletic training from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. A master’s degree is preferred. Other requirements are Alabama State Licensure by the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers (or immediately eligible to sit for the exam), and certification in first aid, CPR, and AED. The candidate must have strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Candidates must possess a current driver's license and be insurable.

    Assistant Football Coach

    Birmingham-Southern College has an immediate opening for an Assistant Football Coach.

    Under the direction of the Head Coach, the purpose of this position is to use athletics as a tool to educate and impact college students. This position serves as a teacher and mentor to help build student character, prepare students for a constructive and effective life, and teach valuable life lessons including work ethic; discipline; resilience; persistence; teamwork and selflessness and leadership.

    This position assists in planning, directing, and coaching the men’s intercollegiate football program. Typically works with all student-athletes in the program to some capacity but will have a specific position group assigned.

    This position typically requires experience coaching at the collegiate level or comparable experience. Comparable experience may include coaching/teaching at the professional or high school level.

    The role is full-time, with a partial-year schedule of 11 months.

    Position Description

    Athlete Team Management

    • Focuses on developing student-athlete skills, helping to plan and execute practices, supporting in-game management, and coordinating a portion of team programming of particular importance. Helps team perform at competitive levels.
    • Typically has some impact on developing the skills for a portion of student-athletes.
    • Requires the ability to effectively communicate with students by generating enthusiasm through credible coaching.
    • Assists in analyzing video for scouting opponents and team development.
    • Assists in recruiting and retaining talent consistent with values of excellence and inclusion; assists in developing team enthusiasm for recruitment and retention.
    • Supports culture of education through athletics. Assists in academic integration with team, as appropriate.
     
    Operational Complexity
     
    Typically assists in the execution of strategy, logistics, and operational direction of the team, with greater supervision. Where expenditures are permitted, operates within budget.
    Participates in professional activities, as appropriate. With instruction, follows trends and embraces innovation opportunities.
    Problems faced may be moderately complex.
    Requires the ability to communicate effectively with the coaching staff and athletics administrators.

     

    In addition, the Assistant Coach will:

    Help instruct and develop student-athletes.
    Assist in making strategic decisions in contest situations.
    Support the strength and conditioning of the athletes.
    Be responsible for recruiting for a specific geographic area.
    Handle administrative responsibilities associated with the program operations.

    Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree required.
    Requires at least 1 year of coaching or professional experience.
    Preferred: 3-5 years coaching experience at high school, collegiate or professional level.

    Additional Qualifications and Skills

    Requires substantial sport-specific knowledge and knowledge of relevant issues.
    Understands the philosophy, principles, and policies of college athletics.
    Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to work with and relate well to a diverse group of athletes, administrators, and University constituents. Must be able to establish yourself as a respected coach to students, University administration and faculty, alumni, and media representatives. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and a database. Basic video filming, editing, and analytical ability.

    Certificates and Licenses

    Valid driver's license needed.
    CPR and First Aid required.

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to lift equipment associated with the sport.

    Working Conditions

    Evening and weekend work required.
     
    Job requires work in extreme environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, and high levels of noise.

    Campus Police Officer

    Birmingham-Southern College is currently seeking a Campus Police Officer to join the team that serves and protects the college community.

    The Officer is responsible for maintaining security and safety of persons and property; identifying potential security and safety hazards; being observant and responding to potential criminal activity on campus; maintaining good public relations by assisting others as a source of information and direction; controlling and regulating traffic and parking; and investigating all security, safety, and traffic incidents.

    To perform this job successfully, applicants must be able to:

    • Promote and maintain civil order.
    • Enforce laws and ordinances, conduct investigations, and issue citations.
    • Patrol assigned areas to provide security.
    • Respond to and investigate incidents on campus, including but not limited to, motor vehicle incidents, or criminal or college violations as assigned.
    • Issue tickets to violators of campus parking regulations.
    • Monitor students and visitors to ensure compliance with college policies and regulations.
    • Patrol the college campuses and makes scheduled tours of buildings and grounds, by vehicle or on foot to ensure buildings and persons are secure.
    • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
    • Work a flexible schedule, including day, evening, nights, and weekends.
    • Perform additional duties as required.

     

    The qualified candidate must possess a current Alabama driver's license and a current Alabama pistol license, and must be insurable. High school diploma or equivalent is required, with some college preferred. Prior police experience is not required. Officers must maintain a level of physical fitness that would enable them to perform duties associated with police work. Motor vehicle and criminal history reports will be checked on top candidates. Once hired, the office will undergo mace training within their first year of employment.

    Director of the Charles Andrew Rush Learning Center/N.E. Miles Library

    Birmingham-Southern College announces its search for a visionary, collaborative, thoughtful, and adaptive leader to serve as Director of the Charles Andrew Rush Learning Center/N.E. Miles Library. This is a 12-month, tenure-track administrative faculty position with negotiable rank reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and has responsibility for the organization, administration, operation, and evaluation of library services, facilities, faculty and staff, collections, and budget. The Director strives to meet the educational objectives of the College by playing an active role in developing the library’s collections and services, providing a student- and faculty-friendly environment, and championing support for teaching and learning. The Director clearly articulates the value and roles of the library and actively promotes library resources and services to the College community. In addition to administrative duties, the Director is part of the team of librarians providing reference and research support through instruction and outreach to academic departments.
